F-ARE is an architectural practice based in Los Angeles, California and Toronto, Ontario.

Our mission is to provide dedicated and personalized services to our clients, understanding their unique needs and aspirations. We are driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence, applying rigorous methodology to every project we undertake. We put an emphasis on enduring craft alongside efficient technical solutions. The result is a highly detailed and stylistically measured design. 

The studio currently focuses on residential projects at the single and multi-family scale, commercial and mixed-use buildings. Our projects are woven into the physical and cultural context and strive to foster a new ecology for generations to come.

Meet the Team

  • Giovanni Fruttaldo

    Giovanni Fruttaldo is an architect, licensed in both California (USA) and Ontario (Canada). He was born in the picturesque landscapes of Italy, where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree and a dual Master degree in Architecture and Engineering, equipping him with a deep understanding of the intersection between design and construction. In addition, Giovanni gained a global perspective on architecture at Columbia University in New York City, where he completed post graduate program in Advanced Architectural Design.

    With over two decades of professional experience, Giovanni Fruttaldo has seamlessly navigated the architectural hubs of London, New York, and Los Angeles. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with award winning architectural practices on a broad range of residential, commercial and institutional projects. He approaches each project with empathy and a deep understanding of his clients' needs, ensuring that their visions are not only realized but elevated to new heights of architectural excellence.

    In addition to his architectural career, Giovanni Fruttaldo has maintained a profound interest in the role that academia and practice play in the advancement of architecture. Since 2017 he has taught and coordinated design studios and seminars at Cal Poly Pomona, Department of Architecture.

  • Adam Cardenas

    Adam Cardenas graduated  from the esteemed architectural program at University of California, Berkeley and gained invaluable experience at a prestigious design-build firm in the Bay Area.

    Since joining our team in 2020, he has become an indispensable asset, playing a pivotal role in refining our processes, mentoring new staff, and fostering strong relationships with consultants, builders, and clients alike. Detail-oriented by nature, his penchant for precision extends beyond blueprints to his beloved vintage car restoration projects. Each car meticulously brought back to life reflects his dedication to craftsmanship and perfection—a quality that seamlessly translates into his architectural endeavors.

  • Kimberly Carlisle

    Kimberly Carlisle is an architectural designer who graduated at the top of her class in 2022, at Cal Poly, Pomona. Her talent was recognized with the prestigious Dean Design Award. By weaving together elements of history, typologies, textures, uses, and human stories, her approach to design resonates a sense of narrative and continuity, connecting past, present, and future.

    Kimberly, a California native, aspires through her work not only to craft aesthetically pleasing structures but also to evoke emotions, provoke thoughts, and enhance the quality of life for those who inhabit her spaces.

    At F-ARE she is involved in all project phases, embracing new tools and techniques that allow us to further expedite the design process and architectural practice.

  • Lyannie Tran

    Lyannie Tran is an architect licensed in California. She has more than 10 years of professional experience working in both the United States and New Zealand.

    Her professional career began with pairing her architectural practice with teaching at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. When she moved to Los Angeles she gained experience working in award winning boutique firms that excelled in high-end single family residential projects, multifamily and mixed-use projects, K-12 schools, and public and civic buildings.

    She has experience working in diverse cities such as Los Angeles, Santa Monica, San Francisco, Redwood City and Detroit.

    Lyannie’s interest lies in the connections and opportunities between the built environment and the local community that surrounds it. In her work, she strives to create a positive effect for the community at large and inspire better developments through good design.

    Lyannie currently teaches studios and seminars in the Department of Architecture at  Cal Poly Pomona.
